The Frafra Traditional List.
There are 5 stages involved in the marriage process and here is the breakdown. These are the knocking, Customary rites, Hand running, rites for children and the dowry.
1. Knocking at the Door
This is the first step in the traditional marriage process, where the groom’s family officially makes their intentions known to the bride’s family. The following items are presented as part of this custom:
- Smoked Guinea Fowls
- Tobacco
- Kola Nuts
- Local Gin
3. Customary Rites (Hand Running)
This stage occurs when the brides family has agreed to the mans proposal. They invite he and his family and friends over to “drink over”. The items presented by the groom at this stage is for that ceremony.
