Hey everyone! We are here to talk about some mistakes to avoid when planning your wedding. First of all, you know, planning a wedding can be hectic. It’s thrilling, can give a little headache when it comes to stringing all the small pieces together. And yes, we agree that some things can go hilariously wrong.

Well, talking about hilarious, let me share a story about my friend’s wedding. Picture this: my friend who is the groom, sitting all dapper and composed, shining and glowing at his reception. Everything’s perfect, right? Until suddenly, he hears the MC yelling, “Oh no, oh no!”

He turns around to the most unexpected sight. There’s his aunt, with a ladle in hand, whacking his boss from work on the head! Why, you ask? Well, it turns out the boss had dared to venture back for a second helping of food. Auntie wasn’t having any of that nonsense – she’s running a tight ship on portion control.

Think about it: Its one of the biggest events of your life, and you just want everything to be as perfect as possible. So, let’s make sure your big day is more memorable and when you look back to it years after, you can still beat your chest and yes, it was beautiful. Kente Knots has therefore gathered these invaluable tips from the experiences of married couples who’ve been there, done that, and learned a thing or two. We have compiled all these to help you avoid these mistakes when planning your own weddings.

Here’s our take on how to keep everything on track and make sure your wedding day is as smooth as my best.

Mistakes to Avoid When Planning Your wedding From Married Couples.

As stated earlier on, these mistakes are from the experiences of married couples. But we have gone ahead to attach to each statement a solution to address these mishaps that will help you.

1. Have a Wedding Theme

First off, lets talk about a wedding theme. It is like the glue that holds everything together. It makes planning easier. Whether you’re going for luxury or simple ceremony, a theme helps everything flow. Take it from couples who’ve had disjointed weddings—a theme makes all the difference.

2. Budget Like an Accountant

Ah, money. We all love spending it, but weddings can make your wallet cry if you’re not careful. Stick to your budget. Real couples have felt the pain of overspending. The party is one night, but you don’t want to be paying it off for the next few years. Therefore, prioritize and cut where you can.

3. Hire Professionals

Another mistakes to avoid make when planning your wedding is to hire unprofessional. I mean, come on, your wedding isn’t the time to test if your cousin can DJ or test your family members cooking skills. Learn from couples who regretted cutting corners. Get the real deal—people who do this for a living. Trust me, it’s worth it.

4. Check Portfolios

Before you sign on any vendor, do your homework. Look at the portfolios of the professionals you’re considering. Married couples will tell you—skipping this step can lead to major disappointment. You wouldn’t buy a car without a test drive, so don’t hire a photographer without seeing their work or a makeup artist will make your face look like a ghost.

5. Eat Breakfast

This one might sound basic, but it’s easy to forget in the whirlwind of your wedding morning. Make sure you eat something. You’ll need the energy to get through the day, and trust me, you don’t want to be saying your vows on an empty stomach. Plus, no one wants to deal with a hangry bride or groom!

6. Get Your Outfits Early

Timing is everything. Make sure you get your wedding outfits to the designer well in advance. Aim to have them ready weeks before the big day. This way, you avoid any last-minute panics or frantic alterations. Also ensure you are comfortable in them. Trust me, your stress levels will thank you.

7. Wear Comfortable Shoes

This one’s simple but crucial. Comfortable shoes are a must. You’re going to be on your feet all day, from the aisle to the dance floor. Think of it like this: You wouldn’t run a marathon in high heels, so why would you get married in them?

8. Wear Comfortable Underwear

Speaking of comfort, let’s not forget the importance of comfortable underwear. You don’t want to be fidgeting with your undergarments all day. Choose something that feels good and fits well—you’ll be thankful you did.

9. Stay True to Your Vision

Listen, everyone’s going to have an opinion about your wedding. But remember, it’s your day. Stay true to what you and your partner want. Don’t let Aunt Mansa’s love for pink throw off your vibe. You do you. Couples who’ve compromised advice you stay true to their vision.

10. Communicate with Your Photographer

Your photographer is there to capture all the beautiful moments, so make sure you’re on the same page. Discuss the shots you want, the style you’re going for, and the budget. The budget is very important. It’s like producing a comedy special—you need the right shots to tell your story, and you need to make sure you can afford them. Couples who missed key moments in their photos wish they had communicated better.

11. Choose Trustworthy Representatives

If you have someone like a friend or relative standing in or handling certain tasks, make sure they genuinely have your best interests at heart. Don’t choose someone who’s going to drop the ball or talk down on you on your big day. Couples who’ve had unreliable helpers can tell you—pick wisely.
